How did the quartet get it's name?  We were originally called  Southern Connection.  At a sing out Paul came back with two inspired names; By Appointment and Armitage Shanks, the rest as they say is history. Good idea we didn't choose the latter as the quartet would have gone down the pan by now!

Who was in the original line up?  The original line up was Terry, Franz, Paul and Ron Pike.  Ron left the quartet in August 2000 and Alan Bulloch replaced him as tenor who sang with the quartet until May 2004 when we won a silver medal at the Harrogate convention.  Alan left the quartet soon after and Peter has been singing with the quartet since June 2004.

What is the secret of By Appointment's many years of success?  We are all great friends; who enjoy each other's company and most of all singing together.  The buzz we get from entertaining large audiences right down to small intimate parties is the most wonderful feeling.

What have been the main highlights for the quartet?  The various comedy routines we have developed over the years such as Silent Movies, Rock 'n Roll and The Boxing Routine stand out as particular audience favorites.  Singing in the City of London on Millennium night was a tremendous experience for each of us.  In 1987 we were privileged to be asked to sing at the opening of the Barbershop Museum at Harmony Hall in Kenosha, U.S. where we met so many of the society names we had only ever heard about such as Bob Johnson, Joe Liles and Tom Gentry.

What does the future hold in store for By Appointment?  Having won 5 Bronze and 4 Silver medals, we would love to make this our best year yet.  We hope to continue to thrill audiences for many more years.
